Former Marras barracks

A restoration in the historic center of Conegliano.

The project of the former Marras barracks in Conegliano consists of restoring a part of the historic complex, which will become a public library and cultural centre.

Located in the old town centre, next to Chiesa dei Santi Martino e Rosa, the barracks was built around the 14th century as a monastery, first of Padri Crociferi and then of Dominican friars. Abandoned after the Napoleonic suppression of religious orders, the monastery was turned into a military hospital and then into an Austrian, and later Italian, barracks. The military complex was decommissioned in 2000 and acquired by the Municipality of Conegliano.

The first structural intervention is confined to the east wing of the building complex and includes the seismic retrofit, MEP arrangements and general building works, whereas the finishing will be dealt with in a further intervention.
